This industrial 6,000 square feet office space transforms into King Cake Hub (3300 Gravier St, New Orleans), a one-stop shop for over 100 cakes from over 30 local bakeries, open only during Carnival season. These decorations are all custom made, reusable, and because it is stored in the client’s home during off-season, can packed down into a single carload! I wanted kids and adults alike to feel like they are transported into a surreal sugar rush. Check out this feature on local news WGNO.

At 740 square feet this was my largest installation to date. Just 3 weeks before the inaugural event, I was requested to design the VIP visual experience and immediately determined that an overhead wind-activated textile art piece was in order (not a shade structure, in case the insurance company asked). This stood for 3 days & nights in the grounds of the Old US Mint, on the bank of Mississippi River, and has been reused for subsequent events.
Designed to be activated by the natural elements, I love how the canopy colors (corresponding with brand colors) interact with each other, especially when backlit by the sun. Wind was constantly blowing from the river, providing movement to the mirror balls, and the tensile layout of fabric minimized the “sail effect” that could have otherwise been a safety concern.
